Canadian Businessman Boosts ODLM Purse at Brighton Speedway

VIEW BRIGHTON LAP SPONSOR INFORMATION

By James Baker

BRAMPTON, ON, CANADA- Life just got better for the drivers who compete on the "Ontario Dirt Late Models" touring series.

And it's all due to the efforts of a Brampton, ON businessman who has secured $3450 in additional purse money for the "Ontario Dirt Late Models" season finale, the "Hino Trucks of Kingston(ON) and Gatineau(QC) presents the Justin Turner Memorial" at Brighton(ON) Speedway on Saturday, September 20.

Ron Piotrowski, a self-described "avid race fan" who with his family owns the largest garden centre in Ontario, Humber Nurseries in Brampton, contacted 27 Canadian businesses in Ontario and Quebec who responded with lap money for the Brighton Speedway race.

"I'm just a race fan that wants to see one hell of a dirt late model show," said Piotrowski humbly. "I've been watching Debbie(ODLM race coordinator Debbie Brush) do her thing for the last four years. I would travel four hours to see them race. I just decided this year to get involved and wanted to help give the drivers a better purse."

And get involved is exactly what Piotrowski did.

He approached various businesses and solicited sponsorship contributions for each lap of the 25-lap main event at Brighton Speedway. In addition, sponsorship was obtained for additional prize money for each of the heat race winners.

Piotrowski's family-owned business, Humber Nurseries, will also sponsor the "New ODLM Driver Award." The nursery, located at the intersection of Highway 7 and Highway 50 in Brampton, was started by Piotrowski's grandparents in 1948.

The purse for the Brighton feature event has also been raised by the "Ontario Dirt Late Models." The winner of the "Justin Turner Memorial" will now receive $2500 with $1100 going to the runner-up and $800 paid to the third-place finisher. The main event will pay $300 to start.

Now thanks to Piotrowski's efforts, the driver's purse is even sweeter.

Piotrowski's offer to procure sponsorship was met with open arms by ODLM race coordinator Debbie Brush who started Canada's only dirt late model touring series in 2003.

"Ron(Piotrowski) has been a god-send," said Brush. "He is very excited to be involved with the Ontario Dirt Late Models and has set a precedent as a fan by having $3450 collected for lap money for the Brighton event."

The Brighton race is expected to attract some of the top dirt late model drivers from throughout Canada and the United States in addition to the ODLM's regular contingent of drivers. The event is being promoted all across Canada as well as in the northern United States.

The "Ontario Dirt Late Models" have visited Brighton Speedway once in their seven-year history. In last year's "Justin Turner Memorial" at the 1/3 mile oval, it was Adam Ferri of Port Colborne, ON taking the victory.

Brighton Speedway is located 100 miles east of Toronto, just minutes south of the Highway 401. The track opened in 1969 and is promoted by Mark Rinaldi.

The speedway will present a full card of racing on September 20, the track's "Fan Appreciation Night." Featured on the undercard will be Canadian Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Comp 4's. Racing will begin at 7 p.m.
