Oakes Holds Off Planck To Take ODLM Win At Brockville
By Steve Young - August 20, 2011 - Brockville, ON – Greg Oakes took another giant step towards clinching another Ontario Dirt Late Model championship on Saturday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The Franklinville, NY driver led all 30 laps in taking the feature event and padding his lead atop the standings after the third race in the four race series.
Oakes started on the pole for the event, but it was far from easy as the early laps were caution filled. First Oakes had to hold off former Brockville track champ Lee Gill, who pulled alongside a few times but couldnt complete the pass before spinning off the track in turn 3. Then it was one time Brockville regular Dale Planck, for the final 20 circuits, who moved up quickly from his 9th starting position. The Natural tried the bottom, the top and everything in between but Oakes held on for the win. Chris Ross ran a consistent race for third in front of Carrey Terrance and Dale
Glassford.
